Top tips when letting a home in the autumn

27 September 2019

Spring might be widely considered the best time to let a property, but autumn can also be a good time to find the ideal tenant, as many people have returned from holiday and might be looking to rent a new property before the rush of winter and Christmas.

If your tenancy has come to an end or you’ve recently purchased a buy to let property and are looking to get it tenanted, take a look at the following top tips when letting a home in the autumn.

Prepare your autumn garden

If your rental property has a garden or any outdoor space, prepare it for the season and get it in tip-top condition for tenants viewing the property. Collect any leaves and get rid of any dead vegetation left over from the summer. Tidy the borders and remove any thatch and moss that may have collected on the lawn.

Inject some colour into your outdoor space by placing autumn plants in pots, such as chrysanthemums, pansies and heathers.

Add autumnal touches to the décor

With its vibrant colours of red, yellow and golden, autumn is a beautiful season that should be utilised to the maximum to help make your property appeal to tenants looking for a new place to rent during this exceptionally pretty time of year.

Bring the season into your home with pillows, throws, rugs and cushions boasting vibrant autumnal colours.

Light some candles

One of the easiest and quickest ways to make a property feel cosy and warm for the autumn is to place a few flickering candles around the home.

The flickering flame will create an autumnal and warming ambience. Fragrant candles of cinnamon or spiced berries will also add to the appeal of the property that’s in-keeping with the season when you’re showing prospective tenants around.

If you are thinking about investing in buy-to-let property, or adding to your rental property portfolio, a property auction can be a great place to find your perfect property investment.
